Why use wax?
Wax is – for the most part – about protection. You’re putting a barrier between the clearcoat and the outside world to protect it from nasty stuff in the air, UV rays, and water. Water is of particular concern – rainwater and spray from the roads is full of all sorts of pollutants which can easily transfer onto the paint, so the best way to protect against it is to make sure water quickly runs straight off your bodywork – something that wax will do by making the surface ‘hydrophobic’.
why use sealants?
Car paint sealant is a fully synthetic product designed to protect a car’s surface while providing a mirror-like shine.
Because a sealant is chemically engineered to bond to the surface, it will last much longer than a traditional wax while providing stronger protection against paint-killers like sap, acid rain, and UV rays.
ceramic or teflon?
Teflon is a flouro-polymer which is has a base of synthetic wax. The Teflon coating is 0.2 microns thick and forms a protective layer on the painted panels of the car. This means your car stays newer for longer and the paint stays protected from the outside elements. Ceramic coating on the other hand, is a clear coat. When applied, the ceramic coat forms a chemical bond with the layer of paint on the car, forming a clear coating on the surface of the car which is resistant to chemical etching and is hydrophobic as well. Putting it simply, the layer also serves as a protection from rust.
